Mechanical design

Clarify a mechanical need, compare concepts and develop a design around its functional and manufacturing constraints.

Start with the function.

A useful design starts with a clear need: what must move, hold, carry or fit? The first step is to identify functions, interfaces, dimensions and constraints.

The study can then compare concepts and develop the selected direction. The level of detail is agreed according to the maturity of the project.

My design-office and certification work combines product design, finite element simulation and industrialisation constraints.

What helps define the study?

A brief, sketches, photographs, existing drawings or reference parts help establish the starting point. Expected loads, available space, intended use and manufacturing constraints make the discussion more concrete.

Agree the scope and the evidence.

The study may focus on a mechanism, an assembly or a design change. Deliverables and review points are defined together before detailed work begins.

Project pages show how design choices can be explained through writing, images, drawings and optional 3D views.
