3D CAD modelling

Develop understandable part and assembly models from sketches, drawings or an existing design direction.

Build a model that explains the design.

A CAD model represents geometry and the relationships between parts. It can support design discussion, interface checks and the preparation of drawings.

The modelling approach depends on whether the project starts with a sketch, existing drawings or an assembly that needs to evolve.

Bring the available information.

Useful inputs include dimensioned sketches, drawings, reference photographs and interface dimensions. File formats, naming and expected model detail are discussed at the start.

The CAD tools listed in my background are SolidWorks, CATIA V5 and AutoCAD.

Choose useful outputs.

A model may be delivered with assembly views, an exploded illustration or agreed exchange files. A web-friendly 3D view can complement a project page when it makes the assembly easier to understand.

The required outputs and model maturity are agreed for the specific project.
